Can You Get a POA in 60 Minutes in the UAE? How Same-Day POA Works

Yes, in many cases. A simple Power of Attorney (POA) can be drafted, translated and submitted for notarization within an hour in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The speed comes from the UAE’s online notarization systems, not from shortcuts. It only works when the paperwork, the people and the appointment line up.

This guide explains what makes a same-day POA possible, where the time goes at each stage, and what can push it to the next day.

Is a 60-Minute POA Realistic?

It is realistic for a straightforward POA where:

  • The principal can join a video call that day
  • ID copies are valid and names match exactly
  • The powers are clear and specific, such as one property or one vehicle
  • Little or no supporting translation is needed

In the fastest cases, the whole process fits in about an hour. More often, drafting and submission are finished within the hour and the notarized POA is issued a few hours later, the same day.

What Is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that authorizes one person to act on behalf of another in legal, financial, business, property or personal matters. It has two parties:

  • Principal (الموكل): the person who grants authority and signs the POA.
  • Attorney (الوكيل): the person authorized to act within the powers written in it. The attorney does not need to be a lawyer. It can be a family member, friend or business partner.

POA terms in Arabic

Most UAE POAs are issued in Arabic or as bilingual documents. Knowing these terms helps you check your draft quickly, which matters when time is short.

Why Same-Day POA Is Now Possible: Online Notarization

A few years ago, a POA meant visiting a notary office, waiting in a queue and signing in person. Dubai Courts and the Ministry of Justice now notarize POAs online over a video call. That removes travel and queues, which is where most of the old delay came from.

Drafting is the stage that decides the timeline. A clear draft in the format notaries accept goes through first time. A vague one gets sent back.

Short on time? Our POA drafting team prepares bilingual POAs in the format UAE notaries accept.

When a Same-Day POA Isn’t Possible

Some cases take longer, no matter how fast the team works:

  • Supporting documents need translation. Foreign-language title deeds, contracts or court papers need legal translation first.
  • Documents issued abroad need attestation. Some foreign documents must go through certificate attestation before they are accepted.
  • Company POAs. Trade license, MOA and signatory authority must be checked, which adds time.
  • Name or ID mismatches. A spelling difference between the passport and the draft, or an expired ID, stops the process.
  • The principal isn’t available. No video call, poor connection, or no access to the phone that receives the OTP.
  • Weekends and public holidays. Notarization appointments depend on availability.

Foreign documents slowing you down? Our MOJ-approved Arabic translation team handles legal documents the same day.

Documents to Have Ready Before You Start

Having these ready is the single biggest factor in getting a POA the same day.

For individuals:

  • Emirates ID or passport copy of the principal
  • Passport or Emirates ID of the attorney
  • Phone number and email for the OTP and appointment link

For companies:

  • Trade license and Memorandum of Association (MOA)
  • Shareholder passport and Emirates ID
  • Authorized signatory contact details

Company POAs often go alongside corporate document notarization for MOAs and board resolutions.

Depending on the purpose: property documents, vehicle registration, bank details or court case details.

Types of POA That Can Be Done the Same Day

Simple, single-purpose POAs are the easiest to complete the same day. Broader or company POAs usually need more review.

  • General POA: broad authority over legal, financial and administrative matters
  • Special POA: authority for one specific task
  • Property POA: buying, selling, leasing or managing real estate
  • Vehicle POA: vehicle sale, transfer and RTA procedures
  • Banking POA: operating accounts and financial transactions
  • Business POA: company operations through a manager or partner
  • Case POA: representation before courts and authorities

FAQs

Can I get a POA the same day in Dubai?

Yes, if your documents are ready and you can join the video notarization call. Most simple POAs are issued within a few hours.

Can I do a POA online in the UAE?

Yes. Dubai Courts and the MOJ both offer online notarization, so you sign over a video call instead of visiting a notary.

Can I make a UAE POA from outside the country?

Yes. The MOJ route allows non-residents to execute a POA remotely, usually with a valid passport, depending on the case.

Does a POA need to be in Arabic?

Most POAs submitted to UAE authorities need an Arabic version, so English drafts are usually translated before notarization.

How do I cancel a power of attorney in Dubai?

The principal revokes it through a notarized revocation, then informs the attorney and any authority holding the POA.
